Neeb Karori Baba or Neem Karori Baba or Maharajji (1900-11 September 1973) is counted among the greatest saints of the twentieth century. His birthplace is village Akbarpur, district Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, which is 1 kilometer from Hirangaon.

Kainchi, Nainital, is located on the left side of Bhuwaligad, 7 km from Bhuwali. The annual festival is celebrated at the Kainchi temple every year on June 15. On that day, a huge crowd of Baba's devotees gathers here.Maharajji is one of the Indian divine men of this era. We call Shri Neem Karoli Baba Maharajji.

Life

Born into a wealthy merchant family, he left home to become a monk after his parents forced him to marry at the age of 11. Later, at his father's request, he returned home to live a married life. He became the father of two sons and a daughter.

It is believed that by the time Maharajji was 17, he possessed all knowledge at such a young age. It is said that Lord Hanuman was his guru. He visited many places in India and was known by different names in different states. During his visit to the Maa Tara Tarini Shakti Peetha in Ganjam, locals addressed him as Hanumanji, or Miracle Baba.

It is said that once Baba was traveling on a train. He did not have a ticket. A TT officer stopped him. The officer asked him to get off at the next station. The station was named Neem Karoli. The village near the station is also known as Neem Karoli. Baba was taken off the train, and the officer ordered the driver to drive. Baba didn't move. He sat down near the train, using a pair of tongs.

The driver tried his best, but the train wouldn't move. The train simply refused to move. Everyone on board declared that it was Baba's wrath. The reason he was forced off the train was that the train wasn't moving. A senior officer, who was familiar with Baba, apologized to Baba and asked the driver and ticket checker to apologize to him. Together, they persuaded Baba to apologize. After apologizing, Baba respectfully boarded the train. However, they stipulated that a station be built at this location, making it easier for the villagers to board the train, who often traveled miles to reach the place. They promised Baba, and a station named Neem Karoli was built there. It was from here that Baba's miraculous stories became famous, and from this place, Baba became known throughout the world as Neem Karoli Baba. This is where Baba got the name Neem Karoli.

In the past, the children of this place used to go to Hirangaon Primary School for education, but now there is a school in Akbarpur as well.

Neem Karoli Baba's ashrams are located in India at Kainchi, Bhumiyadhar, Kakrighat, Hanumangarhi in the Kumaon Hills, Vrindavan, Rishikesh, Lucknow, Shimla, Neem Karoli village near Khimasepur in Farrukhabad, and Delhi. His ashram is also located in Taos, New Mexico, United States.

Notable disciples of Neem Karoli Baba include spiritual teacher Ram Dass (author of Be Here Now), singer and spiritual teacher Bhagwan Das, author and meditation teacher Lama Surya Das, and musicians Jai Uttal and Krishna Das.

Other notable devotees include humanitarian and spiritual activist Rahul Verma[18], humanitarian Larry Brilliant and his wife Girija, Dada Mukherjee (former professor at Allahabad University, Uttar Pradesh, India), scholar and author Yvette Rosser, American spiritual teacher Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati, filmmaker John Bush, and Daniel Goleman, author of The Varieties of Meditative Experience and Emotional Intelligence.

Baba Hari Dass (Haridas) was not a disciple, but he oversaw several buildings and maintained ashrams in the Nainital area (1954–1968) before moving to the United States in early 1971 to become a spiritual teacher in California.

Steve Jobs traveled to India in April 1974 with his friend Dan Kottke to study Hinduism and Indian spirituality; He also planned to meet Neem Karoli Baba, but upon arriving, he learned that the guru had died the previous September.Hollywood actress Julia Roberts was also influenced by Neem Karoli Baba. A photograph of him attracted Roberts to Hinduism. Influenced by Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg visited Neem Karoli Baba's ashram in Kainchi. Larry Brilliant also took Google's Larry Page and eBay co-founder Jeffrey Skoll with him.
