Product Description
For the Janeu Peeth or Yantra, eight (8) dots are marked on each side of a hexagon. Similarly, eight (8) dots are marked at equal distances and parallel to each other in the central part. The central dots are arranged by connecting them with lines in such a way that the composition appears to be seven Shri Yantras. These are called Saptarishi Mandal (constellation of seven sages): Kashyapa, Atri, Bharadwaja, Jamadagni, Gautama, Vishwamitra, and Vashistha. At the top of this entire yantra, a crown is made, and on the right and left sides, two hands or fangs and a Charan Peeth (foot platform) are created. This yantra is considered to be a four-armed form of Goddess Gayatri. The creation of this yantra is essential during the Janeu or Upanayana (sacred thread) ceremony.
Using the traditional folk art method of Uttarakhand, a cotton cloth was coated with cow dung and cow urine, then coated with ochre clay, and the resulting paste (viswar) was used to apply the appliqué.
