Product Description

Nanda and Sunanda Devi are the most prominent folk goddesses of Uttarakhand, revered as the Princess of the Himalayas and the presiding deities of the mountains. Nanda Devi is regarded as an incarnation of Goddess Parvati—the consort of Lord Shiva—while Sunanda is considered to be her elder sister or companion. According to folklore,

Goddess Nanda was married to Lord Shiva and resides on Mount Kailash; however, she periodically visits her maternal home (the Kumaon-Garhwal region) accompanied by her younger sister, Sunanda. Whenever they visit their maternal home, the people of Uttarakhand welcome them with immense joy and festivity, regarding them as their own daughters and sisters.
