Product Description
Aipan is a traditional folk art originating from the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand. This intricate art form is primarily practiced and kept alive by the women of the region. The depictions of Lord Laxmi Aipan and the Mandala in this art represent auspicious beginnings, wisdom, and spiritual attainment (Siddhi). Keeping Aipan art in the home is believed to bring prosperity and invite positive energy.
Using the traditional folk art method of Uttarakhand, a cotton cloth was coated with cow dung and cow urine, then coated with ochre clay, and the resulting paste (viswar) was used to apply the appliqué.
